had a funny way of changing so many things in so few of hours. Summer had just ended, but already, winter was moving in, sort of skipping over autumn as if it was a nonentity. Though the breathtaking colors remained all around, the bite of Jack Frost was just nipping at the nose of every animal, just hinting that a cold winter was on its way. But time not only changed the seasons, it also changed people. Horses, to be exact. Hadn't it only been a few days ago that Cody had run amok, chasing girls, breaking hearts and living on the edge? But that had already seemed so long ago, that is, ever since he had met Astera. Nothing on the outside had changed, but on the inside, it felt as if he was a new man. His coat of deep auburn dappled by the pale moonlight, Cody walked contentedly down the worn path of Wilderness Plains, his ambling gait so unlike his usual fast and spirited walk. But for once, he was not traveling alone; by his side, step for step, was the girl who had done so much in so little of time. Long, luxurious locks curling gently about her angelic face, her large, glittering doe eyes stared back at him, her copper frame shimmering under the influence of the baleful moon. The dark haired beauty known as Astera rested easily by his side, her stride matching his as the ambled slowly down the moonlit path, her soft, gentle touch mingling with small smiles and sweet laughter. How could a filly like her change him so much? Cody had once been a heart breaker with nothing on his mind of fast times and freedom, a wandering soul who never settled, a boy with a past that he couldn't forget...But Astera had changed him. He was still wild, but he knew that he would never look at another girl the way he looked at Astera, nor would he be so quick to leave a place again. Smiling, Cody picked his pace up to a gentle lope, his smooth stride causing the grasses to whisper softly into the night. The last fireflies of the season stirred into the air, he loped down the path, Astera at his side as the bejeweled bugs swirled about. Cantering easily for a few leagues, the colt soon slowed to a jouncy walk, his unkempt mane bouncing with every step. With his forelock hiding his gaze from view, the russet colt paused momentarily as the left Wilderness Plains, his almond eyes lit with a spark to rival the stars as he gazed hungrily about the untouched lands of Winds, his heart aching to explore their boundaries. But as Astera brushed by his side, her muzzle nipping softly at his cheek, Cody passed the lands as he followed her, knowing he could always save the adventure for another day. Tagging along at her heels, he let Astera lead most of the way, content to just hang back and enjoy the...scenery. Tugging at her thick tail every now and then, Cody's eyes started to glitter with mischief as they entered a wooded area. The moon and stars blotted out by the towering trees, the path suddenly became dark, and with a small smile to himself, Cody silently slipped into the shadows. Flitting through the shadows on silent feet, the bay bronc dashed ahead of 'Stera, nestling down in a clump of brush, waiting with a small smirk playing upon his lips. Hearing her footsteps, he crouched even lower, his ears layed back so they wouldn't poke out and give him away. Sinew twitching slightly, he waited for just the right moment...From the shadows he pounced from the foliage like an animal ambushing its prey, grasping the filly softly about the neck as he danced around her. Laughing, he dodged her angered attempts at revenge, continuing to prance on his toes. His breath coming out in large puffs of steam, the colt threw his head high into the crisp air, his long tendrils bouncing about his masculine face as he pranced around Astera, his energy contagious as he tried to spread it to her. He felt so alive in the cold air; never before had he really experienced it, for he was usually gone with the summer breeze. But this winter thing was fantastic! Snorting out two twin puffs of steam, he took off at a slow gallop, cuffing Astera around the head with his muzzle as he passed. Laughing, he sped up slightly as she persued him, the two suddenly breaking back out into an open field. Sliding to a stop on his haunches, the colt stared in amazement at the mountains the towered above the field before them, their majestic peaks painted a royal purple in the dusky light. Slowing to a walk, he was amazed as Astera began to lead him towards them, his voice slightly shocked and awed as he said, " 'Stera, you live there? It's amazing! Just think of all the trouble you could get into up there!" His devilish smile lighting up his face, he hopped to Astera's side, the two walking in silence as they both stared ahead. While Astera was probably thinking of home and her mother, Cody was only thinking of one thing at the moment...Astera. But wait...stop, rewind..."home and her mother"...Crap! I forgot about Stera's mom! Gritting his teeth, Cody knew he probably wouldn't impress Astera's mom too terribly much; just one look and she would know what kind of person he was. From his unkempt mane and long forelock to his jagged and uneven tail, he screamed testosterone and wildness. His grimace turning into a forced smile as Stera looked his way, Cody tucked away his worries. It was all for Astera. And even though it hurt her, Cody couldn't help but be glad that she didn't have a large and frightening dad to look out for her, at least, not tonight, that is...[/sub]Through
tangeled forests, over endless plains the two traveled, the path becoming steeper as they entered the territories of the normals. Galloping over the sandy beaches of Marubi, flirting their way through Entala, and braving the many hills of Llano, Cody and Astera tirelessly followed the scent of Phantom, 'Stera's excitement growing with each territory they passed. Silent most of the time, the two had braved Solae, Oscurida, and Baraqua before Cody finally broke the silence as they began the ascent of Penhasco. "It's good to see you smiling, 'Stera. This home of yours must really be something...I'll just have to memorize the way there so I can be sure to visit you." Smiling, Cody took a powerful leap, his talons sliding down the side of the steep edged cliff that was Penhasco, sliding to a rough stop at the bottom. When 'Stera joined him once more, the colt kept a sharp eye out, tracing a map inside his head as they neared Arulla. Onay, Cristallo, Naragua, Meseta, there were so many paths to remember! But all the better really, just imagine all the adventures there was at hand on such a long journey! It was about midnight when they finally crossed the border of Barranca, the final obstacle in their journey to Arulla. Sensing 'Stera's excitement, he nudged her playfully, picking up the pace to a canter to please the antsy vix. Cody knew she was ready to see a home she had thought she lost, and he was eager to see it as well. Laughing and nipping at each other, the two finally left Barranca behind, a small stretch of land the only thing seperating them from Arulla now. Astera's breathless voice ringing out, Cody followed her as she took off at a fast gallop. "Cody... you see that land, right there? You hear all those waterfalls, and you smell all those evergreens? That's Arulla! That's my home!" Right behind her stride for stride, they plunged into the mysterious depths of Arulla, deep into the pine forests to the land's very heart. Hearing the sounds of running water, Cody surged a little bit ahead, soon at the rim of a small waterfall. Grinning as he looked down at the pool below, the colt called to Astera, "Hey 'Stera! Watch this!" Jumping off the edge, he let out a loud whooping yell, plunging into the pool below. Coming out dripping wet and laughing, he looked up at 'Stera and beckoned her in. But what surprised him was the worried frown on her face, and the jerk of her head. Turning around, the colt came face to face with who else...Astera's mother. Jumping out from the water, he quickly shook himself, his soggy forelock flopping into his eyes. "Great...way to make a first impression..." Feeling Astera come down by his side, he cleared his throat slightly, unsure of what to say. "H-hello, Astera's mother..." Great, a horrible start at getting to know 'Stera's family. Casting her a pleading look, he begged her to help him, the silence drawing on. Would Phantom already hate the colt that loved her daughter?[/sub]Name
